Frequently asked questions

Do you ship to Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai?

Yes, every week. Sheets and larger pieces go on a pallet by Young Brothers barge, and we drop pallets at the pier every Wednesday. Smaller or rush orders can go by Aloha Air Cargo. Small flat pieces can go by USPS or FedEx, and we add the postage to your invoice. Your quote includes a palletizing and delivery fee to get your order to the pier or terminal. Barge and air freight are billed collect: you pay the carrier when you pick up on your island. See how shipping works.

Can I get a ballpark price before I commit?

Yes. For sheet and cut pieces, our online Cut 2 Size pricing gives you a price right away. For fabrication, send us the size, material, quantity and a sketch or photo, and we’ll give you a real number. We reply to quote requests within one business day. Special-order material and freight quotes can take longer, because we have to hear back from suppliers and carriers first.

Do you take small jobs, or just one piece?

Yes. There’s no minimum. A lot of what we cut every day is one piece for one person.

Can you cut or resize material I already have?

Often, yes. It depends on what the material is and what condition it’s in. Bring it in, or send a photo and the size you need, and we’ll tell you whether we can work it.

What thickness of acrylic do I need?

It depends on the size of the piece, how it’s supported and what it has to stand up to. Tell us the size and how it’ll be used, and we’ll recommend a thickness. Our acrylic thickness guide covers the basics.

Should I use acrylic or polycarbonate?

Acrylic is clearer, holds a polished edge and costs less. Polycarbonate is much tougher against impact. That’s why it goes into guards, glazing and anything that might get hit. We stock Tuffak polycarbonate. Here’s how to choose.

What materials do you stock?

Acrylic (Plexiglas), polycarbonate (Tuffak), HDPE and polyethylene, ABS, and expanded PVC. If you need something we don’t stock in Hawaii, such as UHMW, we can special order it.

Can you laser cut polycarbonate or PVC?

No. Lasering polycarbonate leaves a poor edge, and PVC should never be lasered. We cut both on our CNC router. Acrylic laser cuts and engraves well.

Can you fix scratched or cloudy acrylic?

Often, yes. Our restoration polishing brings back worn acrylic: windows, covers, displays. Send a photo and we’ll tell you whether polishing will work or whether a new piece makes more sense.

Do you make custom display cases?

Yes. We make wall-mounted cases, lift-off covers, and cases with hinged doors and locks, all built to your size. We work in plastic only, so we don’t make wood or painted bases.

I have a sketch, a photo or an AI image. Can you work from that?

Yes. Send what you have, whether it’s a hand sketch, a photo, a drawing or a file (DXF, AI, SVG, PDF, JPG and PNG all work). We’ll tell you what’s possible and what it’ll take.

What if my piece is cut wrong?

If our cut doesn’t match the size on your quote, we remake it at no charge.

Do you deliver or install on Oahu?

No. All orders are picked up at our shop in Iwilei. Neighbor-island orders ship as described above.
